Biography

Richard enjoys a well balanced musical life style which encompasses all the essential elements of a musician and instrumentalist of the 21st Century.

Richard’s orchestral experience has included The BBC National Orchestra of Wales, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Mozart Players.

As Principal Violist and Soloist, he has performed with The London Soloists Ensemble, The Wessex Sinfonia and The English National Baroque Ensemble.

Richard is a solo commercially recorded artist and has broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and 4, Classic FM and Greek RTA. He has also recorded solo sound tracks for television documentaries with the BBC, ITV and Channel 4.

His keen interest in promoting contemporary music has taken him throughout the UK and Europe. The most significant tour was to the country of Turkmenistain, where his performances during the Makhtumkuli Festival were televised throughout the State. Here Richard had the distinction of being the first British musician to perform there since Glasnost.

As a teacher, Richard is Professor of Violin and Viola at Trinity College of Music London, and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

His summer vacations are spent coaching on courses which have included Master Classes in Korea, summer courses in El Escorial, Spain and the European Youth Summer Music Course held at Haileybury College.

He is presently the violin and viola tutor for the Language Music for Life (LMFL) Course which is held in the UK and France.

His students have won first prizes at National and International Competitions and his most gifted post graduate students have procured positions with all of the major Orchestras’ in London, throughout the UK and abroad.

Richard plays on a fine Nathanial Cross Viola, London Fecit 1731.

His Olympia CD release of the music of Sir Arnold Bax (ASIN: B000003W8F) was critically acclaimed by the Strad Magazine.

Julia has become "Jeune Espoir 2008" Laureate of the Concours Internationaux de Musique Academie de Val d'Isère

Julia received a Diploma in her Diploma ABRSM exam in Dec 08.

On February 11th at 5:00, Julia performed a recital in Val d’Isère Church in France.
